Gates of the great halls have opened, and our mighty king
walked in. His emerald engraved crown sat on his head, and his
golden cloak with a purple lion on it brushed the floors. Everyone
in the hall rose up, as the king slowly walked to his table. When
he arrived, he gestured for everyone to sit down. No one dared to
object. All the food and the drinks in the hall remained untouched.
King’s daughter sat beside him. Her thick black hair reached down
her back, her skin was as white as the spring clouds floating in the
sky. She wore a dress with a faded color.
The king sat up, and addressed his hall: “Today we are gathered,
in order to celebrate one of the most important days in the history
of our kingdom. The dragon Meraxes, who flapped its dreadful
wings all over our kingdom, will no longer be able to burn villag-
es, shred little children into pieces, and pick its teeth using their
bones.” He continued with a louder voice “Theseus, who was only a
mere private, attacked to the dragon alone. He danced between its
claws, he moved as if the flames were afraid of him. He took guard
and leaped onto the monster in such a manner that, Meraxes’ head
fell off before the monster ever realized. And on that day, all our
lives were saved from meeting hellfire raining on this mortal world.
The mere private became a hero!” After telling that, he pointed at
me and cheered, “Long live Theseus!” The whole hall rose up and
joined their king. Voice of dozens of faceless people echoed within
the halls.
As the voices slowly became whispers, the king started eating.
After him, the crowd started eating their food like hungry wolves,
who have never eaten before in their lives. I took a sip from the
ale in front of me. It had no taste. I cut the lamb on the table and
took a bite. It tasted like bitter medicine. Everyone around me ate
it with great pleasure. 41
