        step forward to Narcissus, getting out of her cover. Narcissus, seeing
        Echo, turns away from her in disgust and says “Not so, I will die

        before I give you power over me” Echo, helpless, answers, “…I give

        you power over me…” Although Echo could somehow express her

        feelings to her lover, Narcissus was already gone (Hamilton, 91).































































        After this, Nemesis, the Goddess of retribution, hears about the

        ungodly pride of Narcissus and curses him with these words:

        “May he who loves not others love himself.” And thus, Narcissus

        gets a punishment worthy of his great hubris in which he
        would fall in love with himself and no one other than himself.
